About Us
We the People, By the People, For ALL the People is a family-led, grassroots advocacy effort working to improve systems and supports for individuals with developmental disabilities in Florida.
We are a collective of parents, caregivers, self-advocates, and providers who believe that real change begins with those who live it. Our goal is to ensure that the voices of individuals and families are at the center of policy decisions that impact their lives.
We host regular meetings, share personal stories with lawmakers, and support each other through connection, information, and action. We are not an organization — we are a movement built on lived experience, shared purpose, and the belief that every person deserves to be seen, supported, and included.
Whether you're a parent, provider, or advocate, there's a place for you here.
What's Up with Our Group Name?
We chose the name “We the People, By the People, For ALL the People” very intentionally. We are families, not lobbyists or political insiders. We are parents, siblings, caregivers, and self-advocates who love someone with a disability and want to be part of building something better.
Those first three words of the Constitution — "We the People" — were meant to define a government that works for everyone. But too often, families like ours feel invisible in that promise. We’ve waited for help that never came, watched decisions happen without our input, and wondered if the people in charge truly know what our lives look like.
“By the People” was meant to remind us that elected officials come from us — from our communities. But representation doesn’t always mean inclusion. Too many of us have never been asked what we need, even though we live in the systems others design.
That’s why we’re here.
Not to fight, but to share, to listen, and to collaborate. We believe our lived experience has value. We believe policies work better when the people living them are part of the conversation.
(Sometimes, we call ourselves "FAT P" to save our breathe)
And when we say “For ALL the People,” we mean it. Families like ours, people with disabilities, and every Floridian who deserves to be seen, supported, and included in the decisions that shape their future.
